Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane

Objective: The objective of this series is to teach the children that Jesus died on
the cross so that we can be saved.

Bible Story: Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane(Mark 14:32-36)
Memory Verse: Romans 5:8
Bottom Line: God sent Jesus to die on the cross for us.

Tips: Keep it simple!

Story: Do you always do what your dad or mom tell you to do?
Jesus did what His Dad told him to do. It was something very difficult and
hard to do. He didn’t want to do it, but he knew that he must do it.
Tell the story about Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, and talk about how
Jesus must have felt and what Jesus had to do. Aren’t you glad that Jesus listened to His dad and did what He had asked him to do?

Prayer: Pray with the Children. Thank God for sending His son to earth to die on
the cross. Thank Jesus for dying on the cross.

Activity: Make a garden!!

  • Every child gets given a piece of cardboard, some flowers, sticks, leave and grass. Using glue they can stick all the items on the cardboard to make a garden.

Jesus died on the Cross

Objective: The objective of this series is to teach the children that Jesus died on
the cross so that we can be saved.

Bible Story: Jesus died on the Cross(Matthew 26:47 – 27:55)
Memory Verse: Romans 5:8
Bottom Line: God sent Jesus to die on the cross for us.

Tips: Take along a hammer and some nails and a plank or two of wood. Let the
children take turns hammering the nail into the wood. They will enjoy the
hands on involvement, as well as helping them to understand something of
the reality of what Jesus went through.

Story: Tell the story about Jesus dying on the Cross. Children actually find this !
story easier to grasp than some adults do. Don’t feel that you need to make
it a child friendly story. It is good for children to realise some of what Jesus
went through for them, even though they are still young.

Prayer: Dear Father God. Thank you for sending your son Jesus, to die on the !
cross.

Activity: Every child gets a piece of paper with the outline of a cross on it. The !
children can paint or draw Jesus dying on the cross.

the cross so that we can be saved.

Bible Story: On the road to Emmaus(Luke 24:13-31)
Memory Verse: Romans 5:8
Bottom Line: God sent Jesus to die on the cross for us.

Tips: Intro this story with the song, ‘If you’re happy and you know it…’
Also an idea to bring along a picture of a sad face and a happy face.

Story: Have you ever felt very sad? What kinds of things make you sad?
Today’s story is about the friends of Jesus(his disciples).
They were very very sad. Do you know why? Any ideas?
Let me tell you the story………..
Jesus wasn’t dead, he had come back to life again!! Wow!
Isn’t that amazing!

Prayer: Thank you God, that when we feel sad you are with us. Thank you too, that
even though you died on the cross, you aren’t dead anymore! You are alive!

Activity: Sad faces and Happy faces.
You will need:

Paper plates

  • All kinds of odd bits and pieces that can be used to make parts of the face. The children get to stick all kind of things on the paper-plates to make sad faces and happy faces.

Jesus is Alive Again

Objective: The objective of this series is to teach the children that Jesus died on
the cross so that we can be saved.

Bible Story: The story of Sin and Salvation
Memory Verse: Romans 5:8

Bottom Line: God sent Jesus to die on the cross for us.

Tips: Puppets might be quite helpful in doing this lesson.

Story: Does anyone know what sin is? Sin is all the bad things we do. All the naughty,
wrong things we do. Let me tell you a story about a little boy who did lots of bad things. His name was Rory. He was really very naughty. One day he got so angry that he hit his brother on the head! Have you ever done something naughty like that? Then, when his mother came to find out what had happened, he told a lie. He told his mom that he didn’t know what had happened to his brother! Naughty hey? Then, his dad told him to please go and pick up his toys, and little Rory went outside to play instead. He got into big trouble because he hadn’t listened to his mom and dad. Rory was very upset. He started to cry. Rory’s mom sat him down and told him a special story. She told him that Jesus loves him, and that Jesus died on the cross for him. Jesus died on cross so that we can say sorry for all the bad things we have done, and God will forgive us. Does anyone know what it means to ‘forgive’? When we say sorry, God forgives us, and takes away all our sins! It is as if we never did those bad things! Not only that, but when God forgives us, we get to become His child. We can ask Jesus to come and live in our hearts, and we can ask him to help us to do good things(be kind, listen to our mom’s and dads etc). Well Rory was so excited because he had done lots of bad things. His mommy prayed right then and there with him. He said sorry to God for all the things he had done wrong, and he asked Jesus to come into his heart. Would any of you like to do the same?

Prayer: Pray with the children. Lead them in a prayer asking God to forgive them and to come and live in their hearts and to help them live differently.

Activity: Cut out cardboard hearts. Colour them in with wax candles, and then paint them
with red food colouring/red water paint. Punch holes into the top and make it into a
necklace. You will need wool to tie it around the children’s necks.
